and/or
officials and attended the Youth Banquet.

Andrew J.
Weyershaeuser, Club Vice President and Soccer Director opened the
festivities for the evening as he proclaimed how proud he was of all
the youth teams and how they are “continuing our proud
traditions”.
Bill Galgon,
club president expressed his enjoyment at this successful evening and
spoke of the various soccer events to be held this year such as the
Regional Cup Finals and the National Cup Finals. Bill is happy with
the level of respect we at the German Hungarians have for our soccer
teams and for the game. He further introduced our past presidents,
Andrew Weyershaeuser and Werner Fricker, Jr. who were in attendance.
He requested Marlene to say the invocation and soon the buffet dinner
began. All enjoyed the delicious meal prepared by our kitchen staff.
Mark Evans , a
young man from the Philadelphia Union, spoke to the guests. The Union
is the 16th and newest Major League Franchise and is located in the
Philadelphia Area and their new stadium is being built in Chester
County, Pennsylvania. The Union will be playing their first game in
Seattle versus the Sounders and will be playing locally at Lincoln
Financial until their stadium is completed.
Pat Morris,
former GH Player (Pat played on the 1999 USASA Open Cup Championship
Team.) member of the Kixx organization spoke to the youth about the
sport of soccer and all the hard work necessary to achieve success
both on the field and off. He stated, however education is the most
important achievement.
Bobby Wilkinson
spoke about his many years at the German Hungarian Club. He was
actually born a short time before our Major Team won the 1965 United
States Amateur Cup Championship. His father, Bill Wilkinson was a
member of this team, so Bobby has been at the UGH all his life. Bob
was also on the 1999 USASA Open Cup Championship Team. Bobby has also
been a successful coach both at our club and at LaSalle University.
Sam Lee also of the Kixx organization presented a signed soccer
ball to the club and praised the soccer environment at our club.
The players each received a commemorative pin and patch with
our new logo.
