The UGH Major’s Corner is a new recurring feature of UGH’s “The Progress”. Each month we will bring you the latest Team updates as well as profiles of a few members of the Team.

JASON KARASOW Sweeper

Captain of the team, Jay plays the sweeper position, and is always prepared to lead the team to victory. With the ultimate goal of winning a National Championship in mind, he works hard with the team to improve. Game by game he helps make the team the best it can be. The twenty-nine year old player, who wears jersey No. 2, has been with the club for eleven years, seven of them being full time with the Majors. Although he started playing soccer near age four, he began playing at the club at age eighteen. When asked why soccer was the sport for him his response was, “That’s what sport my parents signed me up for when I was little and I’ve been in love with it ever since.”

Karasow played youth soccer for, Upper Moreland SC, Warrington SC, Celtic SC, Hunter SC, Fox Chase SC, and Bayern, before coming to the German Hungarians. He attended Upper Moreland High School, graduating in 1998, and went on to graduate from LaSalle University in 2002. The loan officer for Prime Lending boasts 1996 and 1997 Suburban One Division Championship, EPYSA U-23 ODP player, 2003 EPYSA U-23 State Championship, as well as 2008 EPSA Open Cup and Amateur Cup State Championship. He also has several years experience coaching EPYSA Olympic Development Program teams and is a US Soccer National C licensed Coach. Jay, who is currently dating lifelong member of the Club Danielle Weyershaeuser, is a dedicated member of the team and the Club.

KEVIN SHERRY Midfielder

Kevin Sherry has been involved in soccer at the German Hungarians for ten years. The man who wears jersey No. 18 is thirty years of age. Sherry began playing soccer at age four in Deptford New Jersey, and has continued to play up into his adult life. He attended High School in Deptford where he graduated in 1996. His college career led him to Rowan University where he graduated in 2000. The Health and Physical Education Teacher, is also the Head Soccer Coach of Deptford High School..

In his years playing soccer, Sherry has accrued, 1998 NCAA Div. III Semi-Finalist, at Rowan University; and is nationally ranked in the top 20 each of his four years at Rowan, his highest ranking being No. 2 in the nation.

Kevin is married and, with his wife Carletta, has a daughter Tristen. Kevin Sherry is an asset to the team, and uses his skill and talent to the teams overall advantage.

BRIAN BLESI Midfielder

Brian Blesi is a committed member of the team. The twenty-eight year old player, who wears jersey No. 9, has been playing with the Club for seven years. He got his start playing soccer at age five in Parkwood, with the Parkwood Youth Organization. Blesi, as he is known by many, graduated from Archbishop Ryan High School in 1999. From there he attended College Misericordia from 1999 to 2001, and LaSalle University from 2001 to 2005. He now teaches elementary school and is the assistant coach at Cheltenham High School.

Blesi was awarded, 2-time PAC selection at College Misericordia, Phila. Soccer 7 All-Star, and Team MVP at LaSalle University. His accomplishments on the field also include, 2-Time PAC Finalists-Champions in 2000 for College Misericordia, and 2008 PA State Champions for the German Hungarians. He plays soccer because of the “perfect balance of teamwork and individual skill (to sum it up),” as he puts it.

Most recently he was engaged to Kristine Bittner, and is looking forward to starting his life with her. Brian Blesi is a great soccer player, and master of the trivia game Quizzo! We hope to continue to see him on and off the field!
