A VISIT FROM OLDENBURGERS
Forwarded
From Trenton Donauschwaben
We were pleased to welcome five exchange students and a teacher from
Oldenburg, Germany, to our Osteressen. The students are part of the
German American Partnership Program (GAPP) from the Cäcilien Gymnasium
visiting families from Pennsbury High School in Bucks County,
Pennsylvania. Each summer, students studying German at Pennsbury have
the opportunity to partake in a three week exchange to northern Germany.
In return, the Oldenburg students reside with host families in the
school district. During their stay they observe classes at the Pennsbury
schools, visit New York, Philadelphia, Washington, and Princeton, and
spend time doing things American teenagers and their families enjoy. The
students have said that they love their "American experience"
but miss some aspects of the German culture… especially the meals.
Pennsbury German teacher Christa Tindall Pullion saw this as a perfect
opportunity to welcome the students, their host families and teachers to
our dinner. Not surprisingly, they had nothing but great things to say
about the Donauschwaben Club, the food and the atmosphere. Thanks to all
club members and volunteers who were so helpful in accommodating them
and making their experience a positive one. We look forward to hosting
them again in the future!
