DS SCHLACHTFEST 2010

Schlachtfest is always a busy and exciting event for the
Jugendgruppe. We start
preparing the dance program and perfecting the steps about three weeks
before the event. This
year we had several new members and extra attention was given to those
individuals so they would feel comfortable performing at Schlachtfest.
We usually arrive on that evening to the club at 5:30 pm to
help serve appetizers. The
hall looked really nice with the fall colors used in the centerpieces
and the tablecloths. The
huge pumpkin was also a nice touch.
After
singing the national anthems and the prayers, we were all ready to
serve more than 400 people that were present.
I heard we were able to serve all the tables in a record
breaking time – 20 minutes. That
is a big task to handle and with the help from our Jugend leaders we
were able to accomplish the serving task.
After clearing away the dishes we were then ready to perform.
It’s always nice to see the college students return for the
evening and this night I was happy to see Erika Wenson, Alex Kuechel
and Natasha Grosskopf come
back to dance with us and enjoy the evening.
We performed three dances and they were flawless.
We received a rounding applause so I know the audience enjoyed
our dancing.
The big event of Schlachtfest is always the crowning of the new
Miss Donauschwaben. Everyone
was dressed in their party clothes and around 11 pm we were ready to
see who the new queen would be but not before sending off the prior
queen, Natasha Grosskopf. Natasha
gave a speech in German and in English, danced a last dance with her
partner and then was decrowned. I
felt that Natasha had a great year.
When Mrs. Hauer announced that the new queen would be me, I was
overwhelmed with emotion. I
couldn’t believe it. To
sit on the chair, have the sash and crown put on you, it was
wonderful. All your
friends come and give you hugs and then I danced with my partner,
Christian Kiefhaber, Mr. Blaumueller, my dad and my Opa.
It was great to see everyone happy for me.
The evening continued till approximately 1:30 am with dancing
and then a breakfast that was hosted by the Fuentes family.
Everyone that stayed had a great time.
I am thrilled and honored to be crowned Miss Donauschwaben
2010-2011 and will try my best to represent the Donauschwaben club for
the next year.
