We are very proud of our accomplishments and glad to be champions
of the tournament. We played three very competitive teams that we have
not played before and represented our club well. The club, the coaches,
the players and parents are all very happy.
Coming into the tournament, we were excited because we had a
chance to play Copa and a lot of the players know each other and we have
not played them. We heard Ocean United had been playing very well and if
we could win the group we could potentially play YMS XPlosion who we
have never played.
There were many memorable plays this weekend. Our goaltender,
Calvin Young, played really well in the first half against Copa and the
crossbar helped us out more than once. Justin Massaro scored a goal in
the second half against Ocean to make it 2 - 0 while Ocean was putting a
lot of pressure on us. Andrew Weyershaeuser scored the only goal in the
YMS game and Calvin Young, again, played extremely well. The defense
played well all weekend and did not give up a goal. It was a total team
effort for us and that's what it takes for us to win.
We are busy with tournaments this summer as most U-17 teams are.
Most of our players play in high school as well, but we always consider
all the MAPS/MSSL tournaments and showcases because your staff does such
a good job and we have always had a good experience.
