The Chicago Kickers U17 red team played for the NISL US Club Soccer
State
Championship
on Monday, June 15th in Schaumburg, Illinois. The Kickers showed their
heart
and determination and prevailed 4-2 to win the state title and advance
to the
Regional
National Cup VIII in Indianapolis, Indiana the weekend of June 27th. The
Kickers
swept through their preliminary round and playoffs without a loss. The
championship
game saw three lead changes. The Kickers scored in the first minute on
a
goal from Gilberto Alfaro. South Suburban converted a penalty kick to
tie the game
and
later scored to take the lead 2-1. The Kickers tied the game before
halftime on a
goal
from Oscar Segura. In the second half, Justin Georg scored for a 3-2
lead. And
Stephen
Korosis scored a late goal to secure the victory and the championship.
There
were
many club members at the game to support our team. The U17 red team
would
like
to thank all our club members and families for their support.
The U17 red team has been very busy this
year. The boys took 1st place in our winter
indoor
league at Libertyville with an undefeated record of 11-0. The spring
league
season
started March 28th and they finished one point short of 1st place in the
Premiership
2 Division with a record of 6-1. They took 1st place at the Barrington
indoor
tournament
in April. They finished 2nd place at the NSR Midwest Cup in Naperville
over
the
Memorial Day Weekend. And just recently, they played for the
championship of the
UW
Parkside Tournament that was rescheduled at our club fields and took 1st
place with
a
3-1 victory.
The team traveled north the weekend of
June 20th to visit our old friends the Bavarian’s
for
a U18 tournament in Milwaukee. They went 1-1-1.
Dave
Adkisson and the Chicago Fire’s Nick Noble will train the boys in
preparation for
our
trip to Indianapolis for the Regional National Cup VIII. Should the
Kickers win the
Regional
event, they will advance to the National Tournament in Virginia Beach,
VA in
July.
In August, the boys hope to be accepted
in the College Search Kickoff in Muscatine,
Iowa.
