The above photo appeared in various newspapers throughout Germany (not only in Bavaria) and stated the following:  The Schuhplattler Group of the United German Hungarian Club from Oakford, PA/USA showed their ability at the Preisplattling for the “Bayerische Lowe” (Bavarian Lion).  The Group Prize Contest features the “Schuhplattlers” (men dancers – shoe clappers) as well as the so called “”Dreherinnen” (women dancers – spinners).  The Championship 2008 took place in Planegg near Munich and included eleven districts including ten from Bavaria and also one from the United States.  The group from overseas (USA) belongs to a federation of 87 clubs from the United States and Canada.  The oldest group was founded in 1874 in New York, nine years before the first group was founded here (Germany).
