Oswego Community Unit School District 308
Board fills three administrative vacancies
May 18, 2010
In addition to Allen, two newcomers were welcomed into the
District 308 family. Mindy Renier was named the new principal of
Homestead Elementary School and Misael Nascimento joined central
administration as the new director of English language learners
and dual language. All three new administrators will begin their
positions in the district on July 1.
Majoring in French, Allen began her teaching career overseas
teaching the English language to students in France before
returning to the states and coming to District 308. Since that
time she has served the district in a number of different
capacities starting as a second-grade teacher at Lakewood Creek
Elementary School. After proving her skills by serving as a
mentor leader at Lakewood Creek, in 2008 she was selected to
serve as an assistant principal. In that position she split her
time between Old Post and Grande Park Elementary Schools.
“Lindsay is a highly motivated, team player whose efforts have
helped establish and maintain a positive learning environment at
Southbury,” said Todd Colvin, associate superintendent. “Her
passionate commitment to the growth of students and staff make
her a great successor at Southbury.”
Allen attended Eastern Michigan for her bachelor’s degree,
North Central for her teaching certification and Aurora
University for her master’s degree. She also obtained a gifted
endorsement from Lindenwood University in Missouri. Her salary
was set at $82,500.
Allen will be assuming the principalship from Southbury’s
first principal, Phil Chapman. Chapman accepted a principal
position at Lakewood Park Christian School in Auburn, Indiana.
As Chapman leaves District 308 for Auburn, Indiana, Renier has
left Auburn, Indiana for District 308. Formerly the principal at
Auburn’s Watson Elementary School for seven years, Renier has
come to District 308 to take the top building administrator
position at Homestead Elementary School. Renier will replace
retiring Principal Patricia Decker, who held the principal job
at Homestead for the past eight years.
Prior to being a principal, Renier served as an assistant
principal at both the elementary and middle school level at
DeKalb Central United Schools in Indiana. She began her career
as a middle school social studies teacher in the Indiana school
district.
“Mindy’s diverse talents, proven leadership skills and
students-first philosophy make her a great fit at Homestead
Elementary.” Colvin noted. Renier earned both her bachelor’s
and master’s degrees from Indiana University. Her salary was
set at $90,000.
No stranger to central office administration, Nascimento will
continue his work in bilingual education at District 308 as the
new director of English language learners and dual language.
Nascimento will be assuming the position from Rafael Segarra who
has accepted a similar position with Indian Prairie School
District 204.
Nascimento comes to District 308 from Community Consolidated
School District 15 in McHenry where he served as the director of
bilingual education. Nascimento has concentrated on bilingual
education at all grade levels as an elementary, middle school
and high school bilingual teacher at schools in Aurora and Carol
Stream. In addition he has served students at Bryant Elementary
School in Harvey as an assistant principal.
“Misael’s wealth of experience and strong teaching and
administrative background will make him a valuable asset and
resource to our students, staff and leadership team,” Colvin
said.
Nascimento holds a master’s degree in education and
administration from Benedictine University. His salary has been
set at $90,000.

About the Administration

Principal
email
My
name is Lindsay Allen, and this is my third year as the
Principal of Southbury Elementary School. I am very excited
about the school year and look forward to working with the
students, families, and staff members in this community!
Here is a little bit about myself. I grew up in Upper
Sandusky, Ohio and ultimately moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan.
While there, I received a Bachelor of Arts in French and ESL
from Eastern Michigan University. After graduation, I had the
remarkable experience of teaching for two years in France,
where I helped students in grades 6-12 become fluent in the
English language. In 2002, I returned to the United States to
obtain an elementary teaching certificate at North Central
College. In 2008, I graduated from Aurora University with a
Masters degree in Educational Leadership. This past summer, I
finished my studies at Judson University in the Masters of
Literacy Program.
This is my ninth year in the Oswego school district. I spent
my first four years teaching 2nd Grade at Lakewood Creek
Elementary School, and it was an absolute pleasure working so
closely with the families in that community. For two years, I
was the Assistant Principal at both Old Post and Grande Park
Elementary Schools, as well as Southbury Elementary School.
This was also a wonderful experience, and I truly enjoyed
getting to know the children and families. This will be my
third year as the Principal of Southbury Elementary School.
Currently, I reside in Plainfield with my wonderful husband,
Brian, who is the Industrial Arts Teacher at Oswego High
School. We enjoy working on our house, traveling, and playing
with our energetic puppy, Bailey.
My philosophy of education is that children are my top
priority, and I will do whatever I can to make sure that every
student is reaching her/his potential. I know that by working
together, we can make sure our children are successful and
thrive in a safe, comfortable, and caring learning
environment!

U.S. Army Capt. Keith Chzrustowski gave his kids a day they'll
never forget on Friday, May 19, 2012
BySteven

Southbury
Elementary School kindergartner Paige Chzrustowski got the
surprise of her young life Friday morning.
That's when her dad, U.S. Army Capt. Keith Chzrustowski, home
on leave from Afghanistan, surprised her in the middle of class. Southbury
Principal Lindsay Allen said Keith arrived to the area
Thursday night and was able to give Paige and her little brother,
Ryan, a surprise homecoming. Mom, Sara, knew her husband was
heading home and was able to keep the secret from the kids, Allen
said.
Keith passed out American flags to teacher Jill Carlson's class
along with red, white and blue necklaces. Paige and Ryan got an
extra special treat when they learned their next stop was Disney
World. Friday was Paige's last day of school, Allen said, and the
family will spend the next couple of months together before Keith
heads back to Afghanistan. |
