Frau Katharina Ritzmann geb.
Paul aus Altker, Batschka,
Jugoslawien wurde am 24. September dort
geboren und starb am 21. November 2010 in
Cleveland, Ohio USA.
Sie war 73 Jahre lang mit Hans
Ritzmann glücklich verheiratet, bis er
vor zwei Jahren starb.
Frau Ritzmann musste im Jahre 1944,
wie die meisten Donauschwaben ihre Heimat
verlassen.
Sie flüchtete mit ihrer Mutter,
ihrer Grossmutter und ihren zwei kleinen
Kindern Helga und Norbert.
Nach mühseliger Wanderschaft kam
die Familie in Karlsruhe wieder zusammen
und plante dort eine neue Heimat zu gründen
bis sie den Entschluss fassten im Jahre
1956 nach Amerika auszuwandern, wo sie
sich in
Cleveland, Ohio eine neue Existenz
aufbauten.
Seit der Gründung der Donauschwaben 1958
waren Hans und Katharina Ritzmann aktive
Mitglieder.
Ausserdem war Frau Ritzmann Mitgründerin
des Kindergartens und der Deutschen
Sprachschule, Gründerin der Frauengruppe,
Gründerin der Interessengemeinschaft und
langjährige Leiterin, sowie langjährige
Vorsitzende der Handarbeitsgruppe.
Sie war die treibende Kraft und
Ansporn vieler Aktivitäten und
Veranstaltungen in ihren jungen Jahren bis
ins hohe Alter.
Noch im Jahre 2009 wurde sie von
ihrer Tochter Helga im Rollstuhl zur 50
Jahrfeier der Frauengruppe und im Frühjar
2010 zur 50 Jahrfeier der Deutschen Schule
gebracht, wo sie in Dankbarkeit mit
Bewunderung begrüsst wurde.
Sogar der Deutsche Stadtverband
hatte im Jahre 2005 Frau Ritzmann zur Frau
des Jahres erkoren.
Im Leichenbestattungsheim erwiesen ihr
viele Vertreter der Donauschwaben, viele
Mitglieder und Freunde die letzte Ehre.
Wir werden ihr ein treues Gedenken
bewahren!
Sie wird betrauert von ihrer Tochter Helga
und deren Familie sowie von ihrem Sohn
Norbert mit Frau Christiane und Familie.

dominated by the very sad news
about the loss of 11 year old
Green White player, Lindsey
Eyles. At the end
of November, Lindsey lost
her brave battle with a rare
form of cancer known as
Ewing’s Sarcoma.
Lindsey’s loss is mourned by
the entire Green White community
and our heartfelt condolences go
out to her parents, Susanne and
Jeffrey; her sister Sarah and
brother Jack.

funeral mass will be held at St.
Raymond DePenafort Church on
Elmhurst Road at Lincoln Street
in Mt. Prospect.
The visitation is
on Thursday from 3 to 9
p.m. and the funeral mass is on
Friday at 10 a.m.

Lindsey Marie Eyles, born May 18, 1999,
was granted her angel wings on Nov. 28,
2010. She passed away peacefully in the
arms of her parents and surrounded by
family. Lindsey's life would seem too
short to many, but those who were touched
by her understood that the quality of life
far exceeds the quantity of time in which
you live it. Lindsey had an infectious
smile - the kind of smile that drew people
to her. Everything good, everything
wholesome, everything pure about childhood
was found in her smile. But there was more
- a sense of self-confidence and an
unmistakable kindness. Even more striking
was Lindsey's inner beauty which radiated
through her eyes and smile every day of
her life. To know her was to love her and
to root for her. She touched more people
in her short time on earth than most of us
could in a lifetime. No one entered
Lindsey's orbit without being inspired by
her. Her zest for life and competitive
fire burned brightly to the end. Her
confidence and adventurous spirit were
undimmed. With her courage she led us to
believe that each day is a blessing and an
opportunity to create lasting memories.
She enjoyed dance, gymnastics, soccer and
Harry Potter books. She loved the color
purple, laughing with her friends and
hanging out with her family. With
Lindsey's passing we remind others that
her life is one to be celebrated. Although
we will miss her everyday she will always
remain forever in our hearts. Through her
teachings about life, we have created
wonderful memories. Lindsey Marie Eyles is
survived by her loving parents, Susanne M.
(nee Culliton) and Jeffrey H. Eyles of
Mount Prospect; sister, Sarah and brother,
Jack; grandparents, Mary and Glenn Eyles,
Thomas Culliton and the late Maria
Culliton; many aunts, uncles, cousins and
friends. Visitation will be held at St.
Raymond de Penafort Church, Elmhurst Road
(Route 83) at Lincoln Street, Mount
Prospect, Thursday, Dec. 2, from 3 to 9
p.m. A funeral Mass will be held Friday,
Dec. 3, at 10 a.m. at St. Raymond de
Penafort Church. Interment will be at All
Saints Cemetery, 700 N. River Road, Des
Plaines, immediately following the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made
to the Lindsey Marie Eyles Trust. In honor
of Lindsey's passion for dance, this trust
will provide dance scholarships to
students who are unable to pursue dance
due to financial constraints. Arrangements

Condolences...
|
|
...
to the Buchert family, who lost Katie Buchert,
26, on October 22 after her long and courageous
battle with breast cancer. Katie was a member
of the UDoM from ages 3-18, she danced with
the Kinder and Jugend and was recognized with
the titles of Sonnenblumenmädel, May Princess
and Miss Donauschwaben. Her strength,
determination and love of her culture will be
remembered by all who knew her.

Buchert, Katie A. Katie Buchert answered the
call to be with the Lord on October 22, 2010
at the tender age of 26 after a courageous
four-year battle with breast cancer.
Katie entered this
world on March 9, 1984 as a blessing to her
parents, Hans and Mary Buchert. As a very
young child already, she loved to dance often
choreographing her own routines and outfits
for herself and her sister. She loved learning
at Milwaukee German Immersion School,
Milwaukee School of Languages, and Homestead
High School in Mequon. Cheerleading was her
passion and she won numerous awards including
State Champion.
She graduated from
the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 2006
with a Major in Human Resources and Minor in
German, where she was a COBA Ambassador and
President of SHRM. She loved and excelled in
her career in HR at U.S. Cellular in Waukesha,
where her gentle and fun nature taught her
associates not to fear HR.
Katie's life-long
passion for German dance began as a performer
at age 3 with a spark in her eyes that was
contagious. As a founding member of the Danube
Cultural Society of Southeastern Wisconsin,
she taught so many how to love to dance and
perform with pride. She is certainly teaching
the angels now how to polka and waltz with
unbridled grace and joy.
She will be greatly
missed by her parents Hans and Mary Buchert,
her sister Jenni Bieck (Bradley), her adored
nephew Wyatt, her Oma Elisabeth Buchert, her
godparents Aunt Irmi and Uncle Joe Pechloff,
Uncle Jim and Aunt Betty Pechloff, Aunt Rosi
and Uncle Uwe Brunn, cousins Jimmy (Lori)
Pechloff, Steve Pechloff and daughter Lucia,
Jason (Jessica) Pechloff, Stefan and Erika
Brunn, her “Bestie” Amy Melcher and
hundreds of friends, and her precious puppies
Chevy and Billy. She will be greeted in heaven
by Oma Magdalena and Opa Franz Pechloff and
Opa Stefan Buchert.
Her positive
attitude, sense of humor and strong will have
inspired everyone who knew of her to love life
to its fullest. Special thanks to all her
loving medical caregivers who became her
friends and champions, Dr. Ekbom, Michael
Culotti, Tiffany Marbach, Meg Ryan and Chad on
5NW, and the staff at Oncology Alliance, all
of whom gave so much support to the family. It
was truly fitting that as a spokesperson for
the Pink Porchlight Campaign in 2009, KT chose
to reassure her “Breast Friends” with the
miracle of a Pink Light that grew brighter
daily those last days in her room at Froedtert
Hospital until she passed peacefully into the
arms of Jesus and it gave its last flicker.
To honor our Warrior
in Pink, KT and her family ask that you wear a
little pink as you come to Celebrate her
Eternal Spirit on Friday, October 29th with
visitation from 3 – 8 pm at the FUNERAL
HOME. The Funeral Service will take place on
Saturday, October 30th at 10AM at EASTBROOK
CHURCH ; 5385 N. Green Bay Rd.,Milwaukee.
Please meet at the church. Procession to
Resurrection Cemetery to immediately follow
the service.
The family vows to
continue the fight against breast cancer by
using donations to seed the founding of KT's
Breast Friends Foundation.

Emmerich Keidl passed away on September
23, 2010. Emmerich was a member of the UDoM
since 1950. He was a member of the
Kulturgruppe and the Trachtengruppe, as well
as actively involved with the Jugendgruppe. He
was Director of the Jugend and Kulturgruppe.
He was president of the United (Musci Family
Club, Milwaukee Donauschwaben, Milwaukee Sport
Club and the Apetiner), as well as the the
Musci Family Club. Emmerich was the father of
Karen Schmieder (current Kulturgruppe
Director) and grandfather to Katlin Schmieder
and Kelly Lachmund (current members of the
Jugendgruppe and Kulturgruppe). The UDoM will
always hold a special place in their hearts
for Emmerich and he will be missed by all. |

Klara Fuchsberger passed away on
September 24, 2010 at the age 91. She was the
beloved wife of the late John, loving mother
of Veronika Klaus, Anna Fuchsberger (UDoM
member), Mary (Scott) Lesnik and John (Elvira)
Fuchsberger, dear sister of Helen (John)
Pelzer and Cecilia (Joe) Schmidt and the proud
grandmother of 9 grandchildren and 11
great-grandchildren. Klara was a member of
Mucsi Family Club and a supporter of the UDoM. |

Joseph Gottweiss entered into eternal
life on September 16, 2010, at the age of 78.
Beloved husband of 49 years to Marianne (nee
Aschoff) Gottweiss. Loving father of Debbie
(Michael) Martin. Proud grandfather of Caitlin,
Hailey and Nick. Further survived by five
brothers and one sister from Austria, other
relatives and many good friends. Joe was a proud
and active member of Klub der Pommern,
Rheinische Verein Grun- Weiss, the UDoM and Klub
Osterreich. He was a hard working, loving and
devoted husband, father and grandfather, and
will be deeply missed by his family and all
whose lives he touched. We have some big
funnel-cake-making shoes to fill and when we
think of Mr. Gottweiss we will always remember
his awesome funnel cakes! |

resided in Milwaukee, WI.

Maria Edelmann (NEE Jaeger) left us on
October 8, 2010 at the age of 84. Beloved wife
of the late John. Loving mother of Monica
(Kerry) Stehlik and the late John H. Edelmann
(who was a member of the band Sterne Die
Heimat). Proud Omi of Kara (Mark) Yearling,
Megan and Jenna Stehlik. Sister-in-law of Rose
(Robert) Kieser. Aunt of Rudi (Margaret)
Pfaff. Also survived by other relatives and
friends. Maria was a proud Donauschwaben who
survived five years in a Russian labor camp.

TRENTON DONAUSCHWABEN OBITUARIES

It is with sadness that the Donauschwaben
notes the passing of Mr. Marion Dlubak.
Mr. Dlubak was a valued part of our
organization for many years.
He served as our live-in caretaker for almost
a decade, carefully tending our grounds and
clubhouse as if they were his own. Marion
would always help at our club events too and was
an important part of our kitchen
staff. Above all, however, Mr. Dlubak
was that special kind of club member whose friendly nature,
ready smile and willingness to help are what
form the backbone of any successful
organization, ours included.
And
so it is with gratitude that we remember Mr. Marion
Dlubak. To his son, Joe, as well as to his
entire family the Donauschwaben extends its
sincerest condolences. A good man, dear
members and friends, has passed from our
midst. It was a privilege indeed to have
known him.
May
he rest in Peace, Amen.

Mr. Marian J. (Dzadzu) Dlubak, 86, formerly of
Yardville passed away Friday at Samaritan Hospice in
Mt. Holly.
Mr. Dlubak was born in Poland and had been an area
resident most of his life. He was retired from the
Abalene Exterminating Company. For 18 years he was
caretaker with his late wife of the Arbeiter Club and
later caretaker at the Donauschwaben Club in
Yardville. He loved fishing, hunting and gardening and
was an avid Phillies fan.
The family would like to express thanks to everyone at
Samaritan Hospice for their care and compassion on his
final journey.
Husband of the late Katharina Metternek Dlubak,
surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and
Lisa Dlubak of Westampton; five grandchildren, Joseph
Dlubak Jr, Lauren Dlubak, Jean-Jacques, Joshua and
Zachery Kuchinka; a sister, Mariana Rotuzka of Poland;
brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Josef and Josefa
Brandecker of Yardville; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 8 a.m. Tuesday from Knott's
Colonial Funeral Home, 2946 S. Broad St., Hamilton.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday
at St. Raphael Church, 3500 S. Broad
St.
Interment will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday
at the funeral home.

— Paula Olen, age 89, of Hamilton Township, died
Monday at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at
Hamilton.
Mrs. Olen was born in Italy and was the daughter of
the late Anton and Rosa Mozzi Saboth. Paula resided in
Germany and Trenton before moving to Yardville in
1966. She was retired from the Switlick Parachute Co.,
Trenton, with 23 years of service.
Mrs. Olen was a member of St. George’s Ukrainian
Orthodox Church, Yardville.
Predeceased by her husband, Arsen Olen, she is
survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lydia and
Ulrich Haller of Chesterfield; her sister, Elizabeth
Simanek of Germany; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St
George’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 839 Yardville
Allentown Road, Yardville, with the Rev. Petro Levko
officiating. Friends may call from 6 p.m. until time
of services Wednesday at the church. Panahida service
will be at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Morrisville
Cemetery.

December 12, 2010. His memorial

George Graef passed away 11-01-2010, at
11:00 AM. He was an active and
dedicated Board Member of the Dance
Group and enjoyed participating in many of
our activities. The condolences of the
entire Danube Swabian community go out
to his family and loved ones.

After a long
battle with cancer, Marianne Herman, passed away
Tuesday night at 10:30 PM. She was home with her
daughter Tina and her sister, Irene at her
side. She passed away peacefully. The Herman, Hirsh
and Knoedler families are long-time sponsors of
Dance Group functions.
Services for Marianne will be at La
Purisima Catholic Church, Monday Sept 20. The
viewing will be from 4-7 PM with the vigil service
to follow at 7:00 PM. The funeral mass will be Tues,
Sept 21 at 10:00 am. There will be a reception at
Tina Herman house after the graveside service.

Marianne M., 62,
a 28 year secretary/bookkeeper at La Purisima
Catholic School, passed away peacefully at home,
after a courageous battle with cancer. She is
survived by her daughter, Christine; sisters, Trudi
(Richard) Knoedler and Irene (John) Hirsch; 2
nieces; 3 nephews. She was preceded in death by
husband, Josef (1994). Visitation will be held
Monday, September 20, 2010 from 4-7pm followed by a
rosary in La Purisima Catholic Church. Funeral
services will be held Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at
10am in La Purisima Catholic Church followed by

Franz
Habschied starb am Sonntag, dem 3. Oktober,
2010 im Alter von 85 Jahren im Brookside
Nursing Center in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Er folgte im Tode seinen Eltern und
seiner Schwester Irma Sieb.
Franz
Habschied wurde am 16. Mai, 1925 in
Weisskirchen, im jugoslawischen Banat als
Sohn von Leopold und Maria (geb. Stark)
Habschied geboren.
Er wuchs in Weisskirchen auf und
besuchte dort die Schulen bevor er zum
Militär eingezogen wurde.
Am
21. Dezember, 1946 vermählte er sich mit
Frieda Waigand.
Das Ehepaar wohnte in Linz, Oberösterreich,
bevor sie im Jahre 1952 in die Vereingten
Staaten einwanderten.
Er was Werkführer als Installateur
bei ser S. J. Reynolds Plumbing Co.
Nachdem er in den Ruhestand trat,
liess er sich mit seiner Gattin Frieda in
Paris Township in der Nähe von Kenosha
nieder, wo er seine Liebhaberei als Bauer
durchführte.
Das
Ehepaar war Mitglied bei der St. John the
Baptist Catholic Church in Paris, bei der
Vereinigung der Donauschwaben, Chicago,
beim Harmonia Club, D.A.N.K. und bei der
American Aid Society of German
Descendants.
In den früheren Jahren war das
Ehepaar rege und aktiv in der
Vereinsarbeit und hinterlies Spuren des
Fleisses und der guten Mitarbeit, die
heute noch spürbar sind.
Der
hinterbliebenen Gattin Frieda Habschied,
den Töchtern Trudy (Gregory) Beihn (Paris
Township).
Linda (Bernie) Neumayer (Skokie,
Il), den Enkeln.
Joe (Mary) Neumayer.
Steve (Theresa) Neumayer, Tony
(Laura) Biehn.
Jacob (Stacey) Biehn.
Julia (Chad) Richter und Shania und
jayla Richter.
Mason, Erik, & Karl Neumayer drückt
die Vereinsfamilie ihr herzliches Beileid
zum Tode des beliebten und geehren Gatten,
Vater, Grossvater und Urgrossvater aus.
Die
Totenmesse fand in der. Von deutschen
Einwanderern gebauten St. John the Baptist
Kirche in Paris Township, Wisconsin statt.
Die innigen Worte des Priesters
spendeten Friede und Trost.
Enkeltochter Julia, sowie die
Enkelsöhne, Joe Neumayer und Jacob Biehn,
drückte ihre Gedanken und Gefühle bezüglich
des geliebten “Oti” aus.
Unvergessen bleiben die Eindrücke,
Beispiele, und Lehren, die der verehrte
Grossvater den Kindern hinterliess.
Im
Beisin seiner grossen Familie, vielen
Landsleuten und Freunden wurde der Sarg im
ländlichen Friedhof neben der Kirche der
Erde übergeben.
Möge der
Herr ihm die ewige, wohlverdiente Ruhe
schenken !

Michael Stoeckl ist
am 13. September, 2010 im
90.Lebensjahr, nach langer
Krankheit gestorben.
Der beliebte und
bekannte Landsmann aus
Kernei im früheren
Jugoslawien war als
intelligenter und
aufgeschlossener Freund

Northbrook, Illinois,
wohin einige seiner
Landsleute und Freunde ihn
jahreland belgleiten.
Michael Stoeckl
sammelte donauschwäbische
Bücher, Zeitschriften und
Unterlagen, die mit der
donauschwäbischen
Geschichte zusammenhangen.
Er war eine
Authorität im Werdegang
und Verlauf des donauschwäbischen
Schicksals und teilte sein
Wissen mit vielen Freunden
und Fachleuten.
Die donauschwäbische
Gemeinschaft in Chicago un
Umgebung wird den treuen
Donauschwaben vermissen.
Er gehörte dem
Kerneier Pleasure Club und
der Vereinigung der
Donauschwaben an.
Er hinterlässt
seinen Bruder Josef mit
Gattin Helga, Nichte Linda
und John Gartner und viele
Anverwandte in den USA,
Canada, Deutschland und
Brazilien.
Michael Stoeckl
wurde am 20. September,
2010 in der St. Cornelius
Kirche aufgebahrt.

Elisabeth (nee Stoeckl)
Poliakas. Cousin and
friend to many throughout
the United States, Canada,
Germany, and Brazil, South
America.
Long-time member of
Kerneier Pleasure Club,
and The Society of Danube
Swabians. Born in 1920 in
Kernei, one of many German
villages in the former
Yugoslavia, Michael began
amassing Kernei’s
history and geneology of
its approximately 9,000
residents after World War
II. This long and tedious
task took well over 60
years resulting in the
publication of many books.
Michael’s passion in
life was helping people
trace their family tree.
His sources on the subject
were innumerable. After
several severe health
related issues over the
last two years, St. Peter
heard Michael’s final
call and opened the gates
to heaven on September 13,
2010.

Deepest sympathy from the members of the
Bayerischer Volksfest Verein and the members of the United
German Hungarians to Ernie Illg and his family on the
death of Ernie’s wife Magdalene who died on August 5th
at Pine Run Health Center. She was 82.
Ernie and Magdalene were married in Germany in 1952
and emigrated from Germany only weeks thereafter. They
originally settled in Connecticut but moved to the
Brewerytown section of Philadelphia in 1954. In 1956,
their son was born. In 1954, they bought their first meat
manufacturing facility in Brewerytown. In 1964, they
relocated to Warrington Township and reopened Gross Meats
as Ernst A. Illg Meats. Magdalene was a key employee with
the company, handling everything from customers and public
relations to bookkeeping. In her free time, Magdalene
enjoyed birds, flowers, cooking and dancing. She was a
member of several German clubs.
Her funeral service was held on Monday, August 9 in
Warrington where the family received friends. The
interment was held privately in Whitemarsh Memorial Park.
In addition to her husband, Magdalene is survived
by her son, Ernst K. and his wife Pamela and her two
grandsons, Kevin and Steven.

Mrs. Elisabeth
Soehn passed away on
June 4th, 2010. She was diagnosed with
pancreas cancer last August from which
she could not recuperate. Liesl had been
an active member of the American Aid
Society for many years. Her husband Franz
preceded
her in death 10 years ago.
Her wake was at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home in
Niles and the church service took place
at St. John Brebeuf Church were a
large number of relatives and friends attended.
She was laid to rest at Maryhill Cemetery. Liesl was born in St. Hubert, Banat and came to Chicago in 1956. She became a member of the Jugendgruppe until she married.
Liesl is survived by her 3 children and seven
grandchildren, a sister in Kitchener,
Canada, and many relatives. Liesl will
be greatly missed by her friends from the
American Aid Society. The Vorstand expresses
its deepest sympathy to her family.
May she enjoy eternal Rest! |

Mrs. Anna
Stengel passed away on July 22,
2010, quite suddenly. Anna was born in Batschsentiwan 86 years ago. She came with her parents to Chicago in 1953. Anna was
a member of the American Aid Society senior
group for 18 years. Her wake was at Meiszners
Funeral Home, church service was
at St. Gregory Church and her final resting place
is at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Anna is survived by 3 daughters and 4 grandchildren.
The American Aid Society expresses
its deep sympathy to her family. May
she rest in Peace! |

Mr. Gunther has been a member of the
American Aid Society
since
its inception in 1944.

Our honorary president, RICHARD GUNTHBR, passed
away on Saturday, July 31, 2010, after 2 years of
declining health. He eventually died of congestive
heart failure, kidney failure, and pneumonia. His
wake was held at Smith
- Corcoran Funeral Home, with church service
at Queen of
All Saints Basilica, and burial at St.
Adalbert Cemetery. Mr. Gunther has been a
member of the American Aid Society since its
inception in 1944. During this time he was
president twice, held other positions in the
organization, and lastly and for many years was
our financial committee chairman.
Throughout his 66 years of membership, he was the
voice and conscience of the American Aid Society
and the German community in general. Richard is
the last member of his band, "Die Viktoria"
to pass away. He played for many of our Landsleit
weddings and at many German functions. It will
feel very strange not to see him or hear his voice
at our monthly meetings.
Richard is survived by his wife Margaret, sons
John and Jimmy, four grandchildren, many
relatives and friends.
The
officers, directors, and all the members of the
American Aid Society of German Descendants express
their deepest sympathy to the Gunther Family. May
He Rest in Peace!
