| Landestrachtenfest und Tanzwettbewerb |
Tanzwettbewerb means that there is a competition between all
the groups that go to the Trachtenfest.
Every city is allowed 15 minutes of song, dance, speaking in German,
poems, their Trachts, etc. Whoever has the most points will win what
is called the "Awender Cultural Prize" which is first place |
| Landestreffen der Donauschwaben |
Landestreffen is usually a smaller gathering, but it does
include dance, song, etc. but not to win an award.
It is done only for the fun of it. The youth get together only for
friendship without the pressure of winning a competition |
| Trachtenfest |
Trachtenfest is the fest that is held with a parade of all
the different cities that participate with each city carrying their city
flag. In the USA and Canada, the parade is usually held by going around
the club and gathering on the soccer field with welcoming speeches from
presidents and
dignitaries.
In Europe they have the parade through the town where the fest is held
and then to their town church. |
| Tracht |
A "Tracht" is an outfit that the women and men
wear. The clothing they wear represent the many different
regions and locations of their homeland. A lot of the clothing
today is an authentic reproduction of the original clothing, but many of
our young ladies are wearing the
original clothing their grandmothers wore in Yugoslavia, Hungary, etc. |
| The Labor Day fest has a different name every 3 years then
repeats itself. |
