For those of you who don’t know
me, I’ve been a part of the club my
entire life (literally). Senior club
members all know me, and many of you
younger club members may recognize me
from around Mt. Prospect and at Lincoln
middle school. The Spring soccer season
has started and it’s wonderful to see
all the happy faces, new and old,
running around in green-white uniforms
again!
Thanks to all those who continue
to donate their time coaching, training,
playing and cheering- on our many teams
across all age groups. Soccer has always
been our primary focus, but the club is
much more than just a kick-around in the
park. When the club was founded so many
years ago, part of the charter was to
promote pride in our German cultural
heritage and to encourage social
activities outside soccer too. As the
club has grown, we’ve gotten away from
that a little bit, but the executive
board and I are working to bring back
some of our lost traditions. We hope
these will include many social
initiatives off the soccer pitch.
We’re open to hosting and planning all
sorts of activities – we just need to
know what you would be interested in
doing with your green white
friends! Please take the time to
drop us an email from the website with
any ideas you may have.
Also, next year we will celebrate
our 55th anniversary as a
club and we have already started to plan
by forming a committee to brainstorm
ideas to commemorate this milestone in
our club’s history. Help is always
appreciated! Contact any board member to
share your ideas!
Thanks for all you do for Green-White.
Together, we’ll keep this club
thriving for many years to come!

Fevernova
Premier U-13 Girls Soccer Team |
On Mother’s Day weekend the German Hungarian
Fevernova Premier U-13 Girls Soccer Team Played in the YMS
Epic Tournament. The first game was on Friday night, against
YMS premier Wildcats Team. The German Hungarians worked
hard, winning the game 2-0. The next day, the girls played
the top West Chester team, and the result of the game was a
tie 1-1.
The Fevernova played FC Bucks for the quarter finals,
with another tie 1-1. The game went into overtime, and after
no goals were scored the game went into penalty kicks. The
kickers were: Kat Papendick, Sid Doherty, Bree Rock, Mikaela
Malofiy, and Emily Palmer. After two strong saves by the
goalkeeper Jaz Gonzales, GH won the game.
It was a great team win and the coaches were proud of
all the girls and how they handled themselves on and off the
field. Although they lost the next game to Somerset Hills, UGH
finished as Semi-finalists, which was a great
accomplishment. Thanks to all the hard work the team moved
up to 7th in the state, 28th in Region I, and 98th in the
nation.
Great
job Fevernova!

GAME
RECAP
Region
I Semi-Final, Sunday May 23rd
On Sunday May 23rd, The German Hungarians
gathered at the Club in the morning to prepare for
the bus trip to St. John’s University for the
big game. The team had breakfast at the Club
together, and all received a new GH T-shirt. The
Team, Staff, and SuperFans alike boarded the bus
and departed at 11:05 AM. On the ride up we
watched a classic soccer movie “Victory” and
cheered when the Allies beat the German National
team! Upon arrival at the University, Our Team
warmed up on the massive field and looked sharp,
all dressed the same in their white shirts, black
shorts and red socks!
Though the Pancyprians had more fans in the
stands than we did, it wasn’t long before we
showed our colors. The SuperFans unfurled our
banner and branded our section with our name. As
the game got underway, it wasn’t hard to find,
or hear the German Hungarians; the score tied at
zero, a Pancyprian’s player received a second
yellow and was sent off. Although both sides had
some chances, the first half ended with a 0-0 tie.
The German Hungarians stepped it up the second
half but the game still had no score. With only 2
minutes left in regulation time, the referee
signaled for a Pancyprian penalty kick. Our
goalkeeper, Eric Talbot, came up huge with the
save, only to see an indirect kick called in the
box. Again, there was no goal in the result. With
the German Hungarian counter attack going the
other way, the referee called for end of
regulation time.
The extra time, two fifteen minute halves,
left GH with no substitutions, and multiple
players hobbling. There was no option, they had to
keep playing, and the score remained 0-0. Moving
on to penalty kicks, the Pancyprians came out on
top.
After loading up the bus and having a few
in the parking lot, the group boarded for the trip
home. The first half of the bus ride was pretty
quiet until most of the team and SuperFans
gathered in the back of the bus. The newer players
then began to learn the common German Hungarian
drinking songs and even contributed with some of
their own songs. When we arrived back home at the
club, we moved the party into the bar, where the
fun and friendship continued, oh and of course,
the bell ringing began!!!

RYAN
TADLEY, Defender
|
|
Ryan Tadley is new to the team this
season, but he doesn’t disappoint! The 22
year old, who wears jersey No. 5, is a
defender who is always quick on his feet and
ready to move the ball. Starting to play
soccer at age 5 in Barrington New Jersey,
for the TBAA Fusion, Tadley graduated from
Cherry Hill West High School in 2006. Going
on to LaSalle University, he recently
graduated. It is through LaSalle that Ryan
became introduced to our Club and in the
short time he has been involved, he has
become a key part of the team. Tadley plays
soccer because:
“Baseball was to slow, & I was too small for football, so I went
with soccer.” he says.
It’s easy to find Tadley in our bar
with his “D.A.B” as he calls it.
Recently he learned about the “one and
done” policy always followed by “lets
split one”.

KEN
TOMCZUK, Marking Back
|
|
Ken Tomczuk is age 25 and has spent five of them playing soccer with
the German Hungarians. Although currently injured, Ken wears jersey No. 20.
Called Iniesta due to his hairline, Ken began playing at age 3 in Somerton.
A graduate of St. Joe’s Prep in 2002, Tomczuk went on to Seton Hall
graduating in 2006. Ken boasts assisting on a crucial goal to defeat UCONN
2-0. He received All Catholic Honorable mention and plays soccer because:
“Anything
else would be uncivilized.”
