Larry: Nicholas and Elizabeth had 12 children:
William, Mary , Nancy, and Rosa were away from home and married in 1850. There was 8 children still at home.
Mary Keith married Benjamin F. Berkley 30 Dec.1849 and her sister Nancy married Charles J. Berkley June 18,1849. They were in Clark Co. Ark. same as Nicholas.
William had married Sarilla I. and was in Titus Co.TX. I don't know where Rosa was living but could have married a Runnels.

The children still at home were Benjamin B, Henry,Martha A.
N.W (twin), Jane (twin) Caroline, Maria, Sarilda Emilie.

In 1860 Mary Keith Berkley was a widow, and she and Nancy's families were still in Ark.Nancy's family never left Arkansas.
Nicholas had moved to Titus and his wife was dead. His daughter Rosa A was living with him. His son William and Sarilla I, and his son Benjamin and Sally were living in Titus also.

In 1870 Nicholas Keith was living with his widow daughter Mary Berkley and her 5 children. They moved with most of the other Keith families to Hunt Co. near Celeste, TX. I am not sure if Nicholas moved with her or not. Mary and her family was in Johnson Co.TX by 1880. Mary was my ggrandmother. In her old age I believe she had married a McShaw. Her daughter Nancy Catherine married William Henry Goode. This is my line.
I have a document from Franklin Co.TX where Mary Keith Berkley McShaw in Hood County had given William Henry Goode (her son in law) power of attorney to sell her 1/12 of 320 acres she had inherited from her father Nicholas. This document was dated March 1883 and signed by William H. Goode (an attorney for Mary McShaw)
I live in Hopkins Co. which is between Franklin and Hunt.

All the researchers I have communicated with have accepted that Nicholas had 9 children, possibly 10, the eldest being:

1) William (b. ca 1824, IL) m. ca 1843 to Sarah L or Sarilda [possibly WILSON], Hempstead Co., AR; moved ca 1853 to Titus Co., TX; d. 1896 had Rosilla (b. ca 1843, AR), Luanah E. (b. 1846, AR), Nicholas J. (b. 1848, AR), Elizabeth, John (b. 1852, AR), Mary P. (b. 1853, TX), Albert (b. 1856, TX), Sarvilla (b. 1858), and William Henry (b. 1865, TX) [1860 census includes Leonora (b. 1860)
This William lives nextdoor to Nicholas KEITH (b. ca 1803, IL) and near Benjamin KEITH (b. ca 1825, IL).

I am looking for information on Nicholas Keith born 1802 in Tennessee, died bet.1870-1880 his wife was Elizabeth Thornton (dau. of William Robert Thornton & Mary Lula Woolsey) born Nov. 1, 1803 in Union county,Illinois and died aft. 1860 in Texas
They were married Dec. 26, 1821 in Union County,Illinois I know of 8 children
1) Benjamin B. Keith 1825 (27th Regiment,TX.Cavalry co.H)
2) Mary "Polly" Keith 1827
3) Henry Keith
4) Martha A. Keith
5) N. W. Keith 1839 ( I think it is Nicholas Webb Keith)
6) Jane Keith
7) Caroline Keith
8) Seralda A

We know that Nicholas Keith's mother was Mary but do not know her maiden name. We know that she was married at least twice, known to have been married to a Keith and to a Cornelius.
Mary Keith-Cornelius b 1780-1790, place ________? We believe she is the mother of Ruben, William, & Jester and probably Henry, Keziah, & Jeptha. Nicholas Keath, known half brother of Henry Cornelius would be another child. A descendant of Reuben Ragland stated in a letter that a sister of Reuben Ragland married a Crow. We have a marriage record of Keziah Cornelius to James Crow. In addition James Crow lived near the others and filed the same day for Lovely County Donation Land. Mary may be the daughter-in-law of Jeptha, decd. by January 1818 Lawrence Co. AR, Terr. She probably is the eldest female living with William Cornelius in the 1840 Census of Hempstead Co. She gave her residence as Hempstead Co. AR in a deed selling her Donation land in Clark County AR in 1836. In 1839 MRS. CORNELIUS' FERRY on the Little Missouri River is mentioned p. 5 Hempstead County Court Records (road work assignments).
You say that your husband is a descendant of Nicholas Keith. Could you tell me what you know about Nicholas, especialy in his early days. I suppose you know that he and his half brother Henry Cornelius were circuit riding Methodist ministers in Clark County AR.
I you can provide me with a sketch of your information, I may be able to fill in more blanks.
Nicholas Keith's half brother Jester Cornelius was my gr-gr grandfather.
