Hugh Ambrose McGuire spelled his last name Maguire according to
the 1840 census. In these census he was between 30 and 40 years
old. A female is listed between the age of 15 and 20 years old.
I guess this must be Ann Thornton his wife. On May 23, 1837 Hugh
A. McGuire recorded a deed for 40 acres, NE 1/4 se 1/4 Sec. 18,
Township 8 south, Range 21 West ( 10 or 12 miles NNE of old
Rome, Clark Co.)(Information from the Clark County, Arkansas,
Index to Deed records, Book "A" - 1821-1858.)
Hugh Ambrose was a school teacher, and he and his wife owned
part of the present Hayes farm near Rome, Ark. (near Okolana in
Clark Co.) Hugh Ambrose and Ann separated and was divorced
January 09, 1843. Hugh Ambrose gave the land to the two boys of
the family, Abner Echols and William Fountain, for taking care
of their mother. Later Ann married Jacob Lavender. (Clark Co.
Ark . Marriage Record Book "B" Page 117, gives
Lavender, Jacob, 25 to Ann Maguire, 25, October 30, 1843, by R.S.
Tate, J.P.") Hugh A. Mcguire married Rebecca A. Bowen,
March 07, 1844 in Union Co. Ark. and to this union one daughter
Martha Ann, was born.
Martha Ann married David Holder in Clark County, Ark. on
November 22, 1863 when she was 19.
Last record of Hugh A. McGuire was in Orleans Parish, La. in
1850 (note: This additional information concerning Hugh A.
McGuire was obtained at Clark County, Ark. by J.B. McGuire #45
in the McGuire Family history.)
